Journey to Mompox by boat through the Magdalena River

3 days

The Magdalena River is born in the Colombian Massif, crosses the country from south to north, and meets the Caribbean Sea, becoming the most important fluvial artery in Colombia. On this journey, we will remember the Magic Realism from Gabriel García Márquez, our Nobel Prize in Literature, who narrated the journeys of his characters in large steamships that crossed the river and connected different villages.

The tour begins in Cartagena, aboard the Magdalena River Canoe, a traditional motorboat 29 meters long with 130 square meters of open space, with a capacity for 10 passengers and fully equipped with beds with canopy, 2 bathrooms, kitchen/bar, hammocks, and a large table in the common area. We will depart through the Dique canal to reach the Magdalena River.² de espacio abierto, con capacidad para 10 pasajeros y totalmente acondicionada  con camas con dosel, 2 baños, cocina/bar, hamacas y una gran mesa en la zona común, partiremos por el canal del Dique para llegar al río Magdalena.

During our onboard experience, you will contemplate wonderful landscapes, sunrises, listen to the bird’s singing, see native species, enjoy sunsets, and people who wave from the shores. You will also enjoy a rowing canoe ride with locals, natural beaches on the banks where it is possible to swim, a biking tour in a small village, and a visit to a local farm, where farmers will show you different crops.

We will sleep two nights on the boat, which will be anchored to the river bank, and on our third day, we will arrive at Mompox, one of the heritage towns of Colombia.
